Key

Compatibility

P = Preferred.  This is the preferred version.

F = Forward compatible with the current preferred version.

N = Not forward compatible with the current preferred version.

Service Specification Version Number Structure

The service specification version number is a concatenation of NDM-U version and alphabetic major revision level plus decimal minor revision level.   Service specifications written in accordance with NDM-U 2.0, 2.5, and 2.6 are backward compatible, but not forward compatible.  Service specifications written in accordance with NDM-U 3.x are not backward compatible.

States

1 = Working Draft

Description:

Submission stage service specifications have been inspected by the IPDR.org Business Requirements working group and validated as well formed and potentially useful.  Forward compatibility is not assured.

Criterion:

·       Two organizations sponsored the service spec for submission to IPDR.org.

·       An IPDR.org member committed to champion it through the process

·       BR working group reviewed the specification, suggested changes, and voted to accept.  (Voting is targeted to occur within 30 days of submission).

2 = Recommendation

Description:

Recommendation stage service specifications have been proven in multi-vendor interoperability.  New versions may be created to address limitations that are found during use.  These will typically be forward compatible.

Criterion:

At least three different vendors (at least 2 producers and 1 consumer or 1 producer and at least 2 consumers) have demonstrated interoperability using the service specification in a realistic scenario, or another consortium comprising significant vendors from the applicable industry segment has formally recognized the service specification draft.
