Reliable Streaming Internet Protocol Detail Records
The Internet Protocol Detail Records (IPDR
) format provides an extensible means to exchange usage information
between systems. The model of extension is based on the use of a subset
of the XML Schema specification language, in conjunction with a well
defined mapping to a binary format based on the eXtensible Data Record
(XDR).
IPDR's compact format as defined by the Network Data Management Usage (NDM-U)
3.1 specification
is well suited as a general purpose means for entities to stream usage
or performance information to interested consumers.
The requirements defined by the IPFIX
working group appear to be well aligned with the capabilities of this
mechanism. In order to be considered as a
candidate protocol
, the streaming mechanism will be submitted as an IETF draft.
The following specification defines the protocol procedures:
- draft-meyer-ipdr-streaming-00
(Text)
- draft-meyer-ipdr-streaming-00
(HTML)
IPFIX calls for protocol advocacy statements. The following documents describe
the benefits of IPDR as the IPFIX protocol mechanism:
- draft-meyer-ipfix-IPDR-eval-00 (
Text
)
- draft-meyer-ipfix-IPDR-eval-00 (
HTML
)
An example IP Flow Export Service definition is provided to illustrate
the Service Definition model (XML
)
Note: this document is being temporarily placed on the IPDR.org webserver,
pending submission as an IETF draft.
