Summary: Amdocs and Cox are conducting field trial where Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) telemetry data in the form of IPDR events are collected, aggregated and analyzed to provide certain statistics regarding the cable broadband network. The objective of the system in trail is to maintain a pre-determined QoS based on policies for the gaming offering. The trial involves Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Policy Server applications. The DPI application monitors the network, looking for specific gaming sessions. When it finds such a session, the DPI sends a trigger to the Policy Server. The Policy Server is being updated on a real time basis with the status of the network (according to the generated statistics). The IPDR events are collected from each CMTS using IPDR/SP. These IPDR events include data regarding the CMTS interfaces, service class names and the CPE IPaddresses. The policy server, based on the status of the network and the pre configured policies, ensures that the promised SLA is provided, by proper provisioning of the CMTS as needed. Further business intelligence information (based on the information collected from the CMTSes) is provided as well.
