FAQs

The TM Forum Interface Program (TIP) is the entity responsible for all normative interface work within the TM Forum. This note describes how to obtain information about TIP.

How to Join TIP

In order to join the program, please do the following:

  1. If you have not done so already, go to www.tmforum.org  and request a TM Forum member login and password.
  2. Once you have a TM Forum login, go to www.tmforum.org/cws  and join the project listed as “TIP All”.
  3. Inform the TM Forum program manager (Antonio Plutino, aplutino@tmforum.org) that you have joined “TIP All” and let him know your company’s level of support for the program (either Active Member or Active Reviewer). These terms are defined in the TIP charter which can be found www.tmforum.org/cws/helper_controls/download.aspx?ID=14635&team_ID=222  (note that this link will be accessible only if you first join the “TIP All” team as noted above).

TIP Teams and Who to Contact for More Information

For specific team information, it is suggested that you go directly to the team information on the Collaboration Workspace (as described below) or directly contact the team leader.

For initial liaison contact (from other standards bodies), please contact the TIP Program Chair, Stephen Fratini (sfratini@telcordia.com). For general information (assuming you cannot find what you need from the instructions on this page), please contact the TIP Program Manager (Antonio Plutino, aplutino@tmforum.org).

TIP is comprised of two types of teams:

  1. Coordination Team – this is a TIP team that provides governance, technical oversight or marketing across the entire TIP.
  2. Working Team – this is a TIP team that either provides the details concerning a given feature or consolidates features into deliverables.

Coordination Teams

The current TIP coordination teams are as follows:

  1. Steering Team (ST) – this team handles a variety of items concerning the overall management, direction, change control and product lifecycle processes for TIP. The leader for this team is Yishai Brown (Amdocs, yishai.brown@amdocs.com).
  2. Technical Coordination (TC) team – this team handles the technical coordination across all the TIP working teams. The TC team also handles the initial study of most new work items (setting the stage for more detailed work in the various working team).   3. Go to Market (GtM) team – this team is in charge of all marketing related deliverables and of all activities needed to accelerate and maximize the adoption of TIP technology in the industry, prioritized according to the Steering Team’s overall directions. Working Teams

The current TIP working teams are as follows:

Framework

This team is responsible for components and artifacts that are commonly applied to all interfaces and APIs produced by TIP. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-framework@lists.tmforum.org). The co-leaders for this team are Jerome Magnet (Nortel, jeromem@nortel.com) and Amit Kleinmann (Amdocs, amit.kleinmann@amdocs.com).

Feature Design Teams

The feature design teams provide details feature definitions including requirements, use case, information model and interface specifications.

  1. Resource Management – this team will handle the specification of features related to specific types of resources such as technology-specific networks (e.g., management of T-MPLS), equipment and external plant entities. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-rm@lists.tmforum.org). The leader for this team is Keith Dorking (Ciena, kdorking@ciena.com).
  2. Service Management – this team will handle the specification of features related to specific types of services such as VoIP, IPTV and VPNs and other strictly service-level management items such as Subscription Management. The leader for this team is Piyush Sarwal (IBM, psarwal@us.ibm.com).

Interface Integration and Delivery (IID) Teams

These teams are responsible for the preparation of unified specifications (including reference implementation and test kits) using output from the Feature Design teams.

  1. Ordering and Activation – this team covers ordering and activation for resources, services, products and customers. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-ordact@lists.tmforum.org). The co-leaders for this team are Andrew Forth (JacobsRimell, andrew.forth@jacobsrimell.com) and Andreas Ebbert-Karroum (Codecentric, ebbert-karroum@codecentric.de)
  2. Inventory – this team covers inventory and discovery management for resources, services and products. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-inventory@lists.tmforum.org). For the Inventory team, there is no team leader, but you can contact Michel Besson (Amdocs, michel.besson@amdocs.com) and Bill Buchanan (Telcordia, wbuchana@telcordia.com), both of whom are serving as points of contact while a charter is being written for this team.
  3. Resource and Service Assurance – this team covers performance management, fault management, diagnostic and maintenance management for resources and services. Service quality management is also within the scope of this team.   4. Trouble Ticketing – this team covers trouble ticketing. The leader for this team is Roman Schlegel (Frox, Schlegel Roman, roman.schlegel@frox.com).
  5. Usage Data Management – this team covers items related to usage collection and billing. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-udm@lists.tmforum.org). The leader for this team is Amit Kleinmann (Amdocs, amit.kleinmann@amdocs.com).
  6. Catalog Management – this team covers the management of catalogs such a product and pricing catalogs. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-catalog@lists.tmforum.org). The leader for this team is John Wilmes (Progress Software, jwilmes@progress.com).
  7. Enterprise Identity Management - this team covers items related to security issues arising in multi-vendor mobile networks. The exploder for this team can be joined by first going to the TIP All project on the Collaboration Workspace at www.tmforum.org/cws and then to the MyPreference tab (select the exploder named tip-eim@lists.tmforum.org). The co-leaders of this team are Basma Driss (Ericsson, basma.driss@ericsson.com) and Marta Bernat (Telefonica, marta.liminianabernat@telefonica.es).

Interface Program Product Delivery (PDT) Team

The TMForum Interface Program has been established as a result of a merger between several interface programs: mTOP, OSS/J, CO~OP and IPDR. Those programs have outstanding commitment for deliverables. During the transition period a temporary product delivery sub team will be responsible for handle the packaging and delivery of multi-document deliverables from these teams. This team is led by Marie Murphy (TM Forum mmurphy@tmforum.org) with input from representatives for each pre-existing projects: Basma Driss & Marta Liminiana Bernat (CO~OP), Amit Kleinmann (IPDR), Keith Dorking & Michel Besson (MTNM/MTOSI), and Antonio Plutino (OSS/J).

How to submit a Work Item (WI) or Change Request (CR)

The TM Forum Interface Program is in the process of defining a more formal process for the submission of WIs and CRs. In the meantime, please send any WIs and CRs that you may have to the TIP steering team at tip-steering@lists.tmforum.org.
